My mall show event
Thought I'd drop in a few pictures to share my table setting with everyone from this past weekends events. Despite the tragedy of my very tall santa, he had some make shift mittens made out of faux leather that turned out not too shabby. I think I faired better than most of the other people in the show as I was positioned in "prime mall real estate" rofl But, I did manage to make a few dollars on my santa ornaments, which is what I had expected would happen.
And, oddly enough, I do have a rather funny story from the event to share. Since I had the tragic accident of my wonderful santa hands, I decided to try to piece them together and bring them along just for conversation pieces. Just a point of interest if you will. Amazingly enough, they were pieced back together very well, and in some cases you couldn't even tell where the breaks were. One hand was missing a few chipped pieces, but, like I said, they were really just for the decor. Figured I would put them to use after I worked so hard on them. Well, this fella and his wife walked past my table and the man immediately stopped in his tracks after having only glanced down at my table. He jerked up one of the hands and was beside himself with it. He must have carried on and on about the extraordinaire craftsmanship that went into making the hands. So much so, that he was even stopping passerbys to show them how wonderful they were. Well, he eventually says to me, "how much do you want for this hand?" of course, I just about fell out of my seat, and I had to pick my jaw up from off the ground. Something I was definately not expecting to happen as you might have guessed. So, I politely told him that I wasn't planning on selling them, that they were mainly for display purposes, etc. etc. Well, he insisted that he should be able to buy it! Of course, I was dumbfounded by the entire incident. So, after much time and him persuading me to sell it to him, he managed to buy it off of me for just under $10.00. rofl rofl Of course, I probably should have sold it for more since he was carrying on so much about it, but heh, I looked at it that it probably cost me a box of clay to make it..so I made back my losses. So, this man made his wife put it in her purse, and he sauntered off towards the food court and movie theatre with his new found treasure like a kid on christmas morning. Me on the other hand (no pun intended here either lol) was sitting there rather befuddled from the whole thing and have a memorable story to share. lol When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. So, that is what I did. The gentleman even took one of my business cards, so who knows what might come of it later on down the road. lol I was just tickled to make a few bucks off of it I suppose. Still it was a pretty comical event and I wish you guys could have seen it.
Anyway, without further adieu, here are some pictures of my display. It was nothing major, but I was able to fill up a 6 foot table rather comfortably. And, too, you can see the santa with his make shift mittens.
And here are the finished ornaments. I forgot to post pictures of them early but you get the general idea.
Sorry there were so many pics, I was hoping to get a closer look of the display.
Hugs to all,
Lori

Re: My mall show event
Rotfl, you sold hands? I swear people are weird. I got to thinking what is he gonna do with hands, something that is kinky maybe? Sorry that's the first thought that popped into my head. lol That, or roll a joint and stick in it for display wouldn't that be a hoot!
Your table looks great! Makes me wanna go Christmas shopping. Had no idea you did fairies! They are beautiful, especially the smaller ones. Hands down your Santa's are wonderful, each one has his own personality, that makes a huge difference in sales. I have to figure out how you do your ornies. I have one tree each year that has nothing but Santa on it. Those would look really good on my tree. (suckup)
Glad you like the head, I'm really curious what you are going to do with it. I got hair on yours today and it really is cute! Got him skinned out too so I actually got a little sumpin sumpin done today. So much to do, so little time (sigh). Huggs

LOL, Paula, it was only one of the hands! And the one he bought was the one that looked the worse out of the pair. lol His wife asked him what he was going to do with the hand and he said he was going to put it on his desk. Of course, he popped the joke "anybody need a hand with anything?" rofl ....was kind of funny.
The ornaments were actually really easy, just time consuming.....I'll be happy to share with you if you like. And, you wouldn't even have to be a suckup!
I can't wait to see the progress on that head. They always look better once you put hair on them...of course, bald is beautiful...don't get me wrong! But, hair has so much flair! LOL
Hugs,
Lori

Re: My mall show event
Lori!
Great display and great story!!!!!!!!! As usual...what a hoot!! I'm glad that you sold some things!!!!! [ I did a three day show once (in the DC area) and sold zip until just before closing time on Sunday.] Your display is very inviting! How much did you charge for your big Santa? I'll bet closer to Christmas that sales will pick up.
Hey.......how's your foot???
Hugs, honey....Diane

Re: My mall show event
Hiya Diane!
Well, on the big santa, I really didn't know what to put on him for a price. Especially since his hands were broken and I had to make something up really quick. So, I stuck $800 on him not expecting him to sell. I had no idea what to price him at, and even then I thought that was probably too steep. The sales I had were only from some ornaments, but, I think I was the only person that made any sales from what I gathered from the other artisans in the show.
The foot is looking really good, I've been up and walking on it now for about 2 weeks. It's still a bit swollen and I'm still wearing the surgical shoe, but, other than that, it's looking pretty good. Thank you bunches for asking. :-)
As always, Diane, you know...never a dull moment with me. lol Off to the next adventure!
Hugs,
Lori
