HELLO? HELLO?
UMMMMMMMM.....Hi Guys!! Is this site still up and running? Or is EVERYONE just up and running?? I have had absolutely zero to say lately, but I keep checking in to see what y'all are doing. Lori? Regi? Paula? Darel? Patty? Everybody??? I hope it's so quiet because you're all just swamped with wonderful things happening and knee-deep in Santa-ing. Right?
Anyway, I miss reading your chatter and I hope that someone drops a HI out there!
Big hugs all around!
Diane

Re: HELLO? HELLO?
SON OF A GUN! I just made this terrific super long post....and it's not here!
Anyway, to sum it up AGAIN.....
I know it's been quite in here. I keep checking...and never see anybody.
But, as for my excuse, I've been trying to get those 3 santas and all those ornaments finished. I'm on the last leg of them now. I had an unexpected invitation to show my dolls at a craft even up at my local mall here on this upcoming weekend. As a result, I've been burning the midnight oil and the candle at both ends trying to get stuff done in time. I'm in the middle of building a prop for one of the santas now. It is a fire place. So, I'm praying that it works as I plan for it too, otherwise, I have wasted a lot of time and materials to build it. You have to figure, a fire place for an 18" dolls is really not that small a thing. So, other than that, the only thing I have left is to stain the bases and attach the dolls to them. Hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, I should have some final pics for you guys in a couple days.
Good thing I've been on the mend and out of work with my foot, or else I would not have had this much accomplished at all. Hopefully, I'll have the sutures out of my foot on Tuesday. I'll be back to work that same day too. Yuck. Not sure how I'm gonna like standing most of the day on my foot. I'm sure it will complain a lot come Tuesday night. But, got to keep my day job unfortunately, cause making santa's is not gonna make me rich at all any time soon. lol But, atleast I am off the crutches and hobbling around on it I guess.
And, yesterday, I went and blew my son's $1300.00 on his first car. LOL I pray it last him and that I didn't make a bad decision. But, I had a mechanic friend take a peek at it, and he said I couldn't beat the deal. So, we took the plunge. That is a lot of money to drop on a used car in this economy. Especially since he can't drive it until December when he gets his regular drivers license. But, he already knows he'll have to get a job in order to get insurance for it. But, at 17, they have to grow up eventually I guess. Hopefully, he'll appreciate the car all the more once he has to pay for stuff for it. We'll see.
So, in a nut shell, that was what my last post said. If it mysteriously shows back up....disregard it. LOL
Hugs to all,
Lori

Re: HELLO? HELLO?
OMGOSH...I can't believe this much time has gone by. I'm so sorry for not having come in here much lately. I MISS all of you and all your (notice I didn't say...our) crazy post..LOL
Diane...I LOVE all the emoticons you put in your post. Always puts a smile on my face. I hope that you have been doing some Santa-ing too.
Lori...what happened to your foot? I'm so happy that you are healing and I'm so sorry that I haven't said anything about it. You poor sweetie. I know your job makes you stand but hopefully they can put a stool in for one day at least. I'm so about seeing all the work you've done on the ornaments and the FIREPLACE. Congrats on being invited to the show too.
We have been battling the flu (2x for Chazzy now) plus that horrible stomach bug going around. Thank goodness that Joseph hasn't gotten either one of them. (only bread winner in the family so that would really hurt) I can't seem to get rid of the stomach bug and it is taking it's tole on me. I HATE to be sick....but maybe I can lose some weight...LOL!! Have to think positive!!
I hope everyone is doing good and getting to do whatever their muse is singing to them.
and Hugs,
Regi

Re: HELLO? HELLO?
Hiya, Regi,
Sorry to hear about the flu bug hitting your door. It just walked through mine about a week ago with my son. I was hoping to dodge it...but, apparently I have the sore throat and sniffles now, started late last night. As for the foot, just a little operation that set me back a bit....no biggie. It's gonna stink though going back to work, with a bum foot and now the sniffles too. I can feel it trying to creep down into my chest. You know that achy flu feeling you get...you can just feel it creeping into all parts of your body. NOT a good thing at all. What stinks is here I am coming down with this crap, and I've already been out for the last 2 weeks from work. So, I'm gonna have to go and spread it around to everyone now. Unless they kick me out of the building some more. Which I highly doubt it.
Anyway, hope you feel better soon!
Hugs,
Lori

Scratch the fire place
Well, after about 2.5 days of work on this fire place, I have come to the conclusion of just scratching the idea all together. I have had to repair cracks and then, repair more cracks. So, here I am trying to repair more cracks (for the 3rd time) with doubts it is going to come out right again. But, I think I know what the problem is though. I built a wood armature underneath to keep to some type of formation for the fireplace. Apparently, not a bright idea after all. Because....my theory is that the wood heats up and expands, then, when it cools it goes back to it's shape, thus causing all the cracks in the clay on my fire place. I have already wasted a pound of clay on this fireplace. And, now I'm ready to ditch it. I can't take the wood out because it is in the middle (inside of) my clay.
I think I'm gonna try to cut out the inner part of my fire place and see if I can't remove it from the wood, and the give it a backing. If it works, I'll keep the fire place. If it doesn't then I have to move quickly to a new idea as I'm starting to run out of time. All those darned ornaments need their hats on there heads....and I'm just wasting more time as we speak.
Off to fight with clay.
Hugs,
Lori

Re: HELLO? HELLO?
Lori...here's puppy smoochies to make ya feel better...well at least getting all the slober off will take your mind off not feeling good for a bit. I do hope you feel better soon.
Hummmm, don't give up on the fireplace. It sounds awesome....I do a good bit of stage setting for my ooaks...just to have another way of doing it....I build my other pieces out of wire and cardboard. Make a wire frame and then cut pieces of cardboard out to fit. Then I tape it all up with florist tape and then seal that with regular white craft glue. Let it dry really well....depending on the size of the project you might want to give several coats of glue. When it is completely dry then I put my clay on it....bake and poof...new project. I haven't ever had any problems with this way...YET!!!!! I have made chairs...tables....trees...benches....dressers....beds and even a wagon using this method.
Just a thought for ya girl. My ways are quirky I know and I LOVE sharing!!!!
I hope everyone has a great restful night and may everyone's needs be met in this new coming week.
Hugs,
Regi

Re: HELLO? HELLO?
Thanks a bunches for the tip, Regi. After another attempt at the fire place. I finally decided to put it away and give up on it for another day. Atleast on the way I make it. It was too heavy too, so no biggie. Nothing but a waste of a pound of clay and a lot of time. Which I didn't have a lot of either. LOL
Anyway, I went rooting around the my piles of stuff I have every where and I managed to find a small teddy bear that will fit the bill for this time around. I'll save the fireplace idea for a later day I suppose. As it turns out though, trashing the idea might actually turn out to my benefit anyway. Because......along with the fireplace, there was to be a small elf sitting on top of the mantle. Well, that obviously didn't pan out..but I do still have the small elf! rofl rofl Sooo, I just need to find something he can sit on top of and I think I have just the right idea. I just have to put it all together and I think it will be a very cute idea. Luckily for me, I haven't painted or dressed this elf yet, so I ended up on the better end of the stick anyway! I'm not telling what I'm gonna do with him yet. I'm just gonna finish him up and snap a picture of him finished. I soooo love to torture you guys some times. LOL
Anyway, perhaps the cold bug is making me think daft things, but perhaps it's the cold causing the genious...hard to say at this point in time. Too early to tell.
Hope all have a restful night, and I'll pop back in tomorrow maybe.
Hugs,
Lori

Re: HELLO? HELLO?
Hi again!
I'm thinking straight! Wait. How do you KNOW when you're thinking straight? At any rate, I'll try a post again...................................
Lori, today's the big day, huh? Please let us know how you've fared, ok? And what is your job? (You might have told us before, but I'm working on my short-term memory. Just can't remember right now where I put it! ) They'd better let you sit once in a while!!!!!!!! And are you over being sick? AND how are the 3 Santas and mountains of ornaments coming along? AND if you are too swamped to answer I'll totally understand. Just post when you can...with pictures!!! (No pressure. )
Regi, are YOU feeling ok now? And I wanted to thank you for telling us how you do your structures. I think I'll copy that for future reference. No joke. Sounds great. Will we be seeing any pictures from you anytime soon????? Wish I could post something. I still have other things to finish before I can give that poor Santa head something to rest on besides a stick. (sigh) Why is everything else always more important than what I want to do???? (Like I used to tell my kids, "Do I hear......comPLAINING?????" ) And, Regi, I'm with you. I think these emoticons are a stitch. They give so much more emphasis to the words. Like music does to a movie!!
Well, I hope that you are both having a good day. Thanks for writing and I'm looking forward to the next time I hear from you!
Hugs...Diane (I'm hitting ctrl-c before I try to send this one!! )

Yeah....I'm so happy that you are feeling that you are thinking straight....wait...that didn't sound quiet right....made it sound like you might not be....hehehe!!!! You are right though, how do we know when we are....and do we really want to? I think that's what makes us unique...the ability to NOT think straight .
Doing the sunshine dance...chachacha....we need SUN...I'm over this rain...LOL!!! I do have to admit though....they have some of the damn gates open and it looks like a beautiful waterfall coming down and over the rocks below it. BUT enough is enough...isn't it
Diane....You are so welcome about my "how to" tips. I love to share ideas and I always find ways of doing things ....I have to keep this mind and these hands busy...LOL!!! Of course, there are the times that I feel like pulling my out. But I just keep on trying!!!!
I have some WIP pics up on my blog page of the Magi/wizard and Fall Santa I'm doing. the two aren't going together...LOL...I'm just working on them at the same time. Go take a peek. I'm outfitting Magus the wizard today and hope to have a completed pic of him up soon. Chaz has claimed him...LOL!!!!! The Fall Santa is well.....only a poor head just hanging around on a stick....poor dear. I'm going to do a few of my needle felt characters to go with him. He will go to the musuem gift shop.
I hope that you find some time to play today. Sometimes we just have to MAKE the time girl....or it will never find us.
LORIIIIIIIIII.....I hope today wasn't as bad as you thought it would be. I hope that you are feeling tons better too. This flu and bug stuff is horrible....I know we teach that we should always share but somethings should be kept to ourselves...LOL!!!!
Well, I'm heading downstairs to get another ummmm cup not the whole pot, and coming back up and dress the wizard. Hope everyone has a fantastic day.
Hugs and MORE hugs,
Regi

Re: HELLO? HELLO?
Speaking of things not shared...apparently they didn't want me to share this nasty cold/flu bug with them at work either and I was sent back home today. It is probably a good thing though cause I wasn't feeling good enough to stand there all day. I know one thing, I am not gonna take a dose of Nyquil tonight...that stuff knocks me for a loop. I took a dose last night at about 11 pm and my pupils are still dilated from that crap. But, anyway, I'm gonna try to make it to work again tomorrow. No paycheck is gonna be hard to pay my bills at this rate.
Speaking of work, Diane, I work in a vets office as a receptionists. Oddly enough, I don't sit at work, we stand and travel throughout the building with headsets on our heads. We are a very busy practice I suppose. But, sitting is not one of the job descriptions in the job, I'll tell ya that. The good thing is that I'm only there 5 hours a day 3 days a week. My days all fall in the middle of the week and I have nice long weekends every weekend. Works for me.
Now, for the foot...I finally got the stitches out today! That means I can finally wash my stinky foot! I'm still not supposed to wear a shoe on it though for atleast a couple more weeks, so I guess the surgical boot is still my little buddy. LOL
Other than that, I'm doing alright! Sounds like Regi has been a busy little bee with her wizard and the fall santa. I need to learn to work on one project at a time so I feel like I have that sense of accomplishment in between projects rather than giving birth to quadruplets every couple of months. Everything is coming along pretty good, Diane. I had thought I would get pictures up today, but I'm seriously dragging my rear right now. And, hauling things outside to the table and setting up to take pictures just isn't what the dr. ordered for me today. Atleast not at this very moment. So, time to go and hit the couch for a little bit and rest up before the family come home demanding dinner and such.
Hugs,
Lori
