Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Regi,
Can't wait to see your work in the Harrison Brothers store. It is such a cool place. Me and Peggy went in there a couple a weeks ago. I found out that they have a display from Lodge the cast iron cooking manufacturing co. I designed a 3 quart enamled apple for them about 4 years ago and a couple of handles. They have the apple in there.
I will post pic of the apple and some of the 3d images that I did on the computer for you to look at.
Good luck
Darel

Here is the apple. The first two images are computer generated and the next two are of the apple they let me have. I would have settled for more money but hey. They had me change the handles. I didn't like the handles they wanted.

Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Darel,
That is super cool! I love the apple design. How wonderful it is that you designed that piece. Did you do the original in a wood sculpt? or was it computer design initially? I'm gonna have to see if I can find one of those cast iron pots for myself. I think it would be wonderful if it were even used just as a country feel display item in the kitchen.

Darel....thank you so much. I am soooooooo excited. Chaz and I are coming up on the 24th. Just a day trip because we are going the opposite direction on Wed. to go spend Thanksgiving with my sister and her family (Orange Beach) Have you thought about going by and talking to them about putting some of your work in there? I want to do the Artist stroll one year they have. You should check into that too.
I LOVE the apple...so awesome!!! You did an outstanding job on that but then you are just a talented artist in whatever you do.
Hugs to all....Regi

Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Lori, thanks for the compliments, all of the concepts were done in 3d on the computer. The first image, I saved a couple of jpgs of the 3d model and brought them into photo shop to create that image. The second image was rendered in the 3d software. It's called Pro-e (Pro-engineering). It is a great 3d engineering software that is trying to edge over into the graphic world. It's the software I use at work.
Regi, thanks for your coments. I might talk to them latter into next year, right now I have too much going on. I can't wait too see your stuff in there. We will get by there before christmas.

Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Thanks Darel, for the reply. I have never heard of that program, but I'm sure it must be popular with engineers.
I graduated with a degree in graphic design about *cough cough* 10 years ago, and never had the opportunity to do much with it. I landed one marketing job that was basically cut and paste layout stuff, then I taught art to K-6th grade one year. After that...it was down hill. Economy was so bad I couldn't get a job in the degree field and finally gave up with the notion that I had wasted my time getting the degree to begin with. So, I went freelance, and eventually in to making dolls. LOL I would much rather do what I'm doing today I think; it's a lot less stress. Unfortunately, it's a lot less money too. hehe Anyway, I've been out of the graphics loop for so long I have a hard time thumbing around the old programs that I have now and can't remember how to do crap with them. rofl Such is life.
At any rate, the renderings look great and I can only imagine how much time you spent working on them. They are something to be proud of!

Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
I would kill to have a cast iron apple like that, but I don't think I would ever use it. The CGI looks really good. I have used Daz 3D but not in a while since theey keep changing the program, I always had trouble finding just the right ideas for my santas and fairies, so it was easier just to design my own on a turn around to see all four sides. This is one I designed but never got around to doing. Her name was Feather.
Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Paula that is a cool ideal, having a 3d image as a reference.
I have never heard of Daz 3d, but I will look it up and check it out. I have 3d Sudio max at home, but it is a bear to learn.

Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Pretty cool, Paula. Feather's face reminds me of the asian BJD's out on the market. It is a great idea using a 3D simulator to design dolls. In fact, many artist already do.
Darel, there are a few programs out there that artist's use that have 3D virtual poses that you can rotate around and see the body in all different angles. If I can find the links, I'll post them for you to see.

I talked to Ginger about you...she said if you would like to put some of your work in the shop that she would talk to you. Have to plug my fellow artist!!!!!! Hope you and yours will go in and look at my ooaks. I'm so excited about them being there. I want to plan a trip back just to look at everything in the store....such an awesome place!!!!

Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Regi,
If you come back up, let me know, and if you have time, Peggy and I will buy you guys lunch or dinner some where.
There are some pretty cool places to eat down town where Harrison Bro's is located.
We will get by this week end and take a look at your art. We are going to Constitution Village this week end, which is a couple of blocks from there.
I'm glad you have your art on display. It should do great. And, thanks for giving me a plug. It all helps.
Take care
Darel

Re: Santa and Mrs. Claus
Awwww....Darel...that's so nice of ya'll. I would love to meet you and Peggy. Keep in mind that since I am the goofy one..Joseph is the very quiet, shy one and well Chaz can go either way...LOL (our 7 year old) We wanted to visit some of the places while we were there but were really pushed for time seeing how we were leaving for the coast the next day. (and I still had to pack and cook some goodies to take with us...ya know...all those last minute things that should have been done before they were "snicker snicker".)
I lived in Huntsville about 31 years ago for a short time....it was nice to see the restored downtown. I can remember going to Big Springs all the time. It looks like it shrunk a bit though...LOL!!!!
Your welcome...I tell folks about all my artist friends when the opportunity arises. I want all of us to be out there!!!!
Hugs,
Regi
